Glenmarie Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur is yet another top-class 36-hole layout with two great golf courses designed by Max Wexler.  The Garden Course is a resort-style course and the Valley Course is a true championship course.  Slightly let down by poor caddies and indifferent service.

The opening hole on the Valley Course at Glenmarie Golf Club is an indication of what is to follow with a tee shot over water to the fairway and then a shorter water carry to the green surrounded by bunkers.  A bit of respite at the par-3, 4th, the shortest of the par 3’s with its deceptive uphill tee shot where it’s easy to under-club.

You need to lay up short of the water on the par-4, 7th and
if you can find a flat spot you have a reasonable chance to carry the water hazard and get close to the pin.  Enjoy the view from the tee box on the very picturesque par-3, 8th but even if you can get on in one shot the very fast and undulating green can still cause problems. The 12th is a monster par-3 and most average golfers will need to reach for their driver from the back tees.  The signature hole is the 14th a difficult par-5 with a stream which crosses the fairway and you need to find the fairway with your second if you want to reach the island green with your third. Water comes into play on the next three holes before a bit of respite on the long par-5 18th.

The Garden Course at Glenmarie Golf Club starts with a short and relatively easy par-4 followed by an attractive par-3 with water lurking behind the green waiting for those who overshoot and the final hole on the front nine is a long par 4 where it’s very easy to get blocked out by the trees if you pull your drive.  The back nine gets off to a tough start with a downhill par-4 which has a lake protecting the left side and again coming into play as you approach the green.  The par-5, 11th is very daunting dog-leg par-5 with a water carry off the tee and a green fronted by a lake.  The most difficult hole is the par-4,13th with a lake one side and OB on the other and a challenging two-tiered green.

Good clubhouse facilities at Glenmarie Golf Club but let down by indifferent service.

"Played both courses - good layout"

I played both courses and they are both in good condition. Carts can go on fairways on valley courses but only on tracks on Garden Course. Excellent Caddies. Had to pay cash to rent clubs and they were not new.

"Frustrating experience"

Reviewed by ; on
I played here quite early one morning and he pro-shop was closed so could not buy any balls – they eventually opened it up for me. Caddies ere very poor –no idea on distances and clueless at reading greens. It was quite wet so lost several balls plugged in fairways and semi-rough.
