Glenmarie Golf Country Club

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6310 m / 6901 y | Type Parkland | Architect Max Wexler

Glenmarie Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur is yet another top-class 36-hole layout with two great golf courses designed by Max Wexler.  The Garden Course is a resort-style course and the Valley Course is a true championship course.  Slightly let down by poor caddies and indifferent service.

The opening hole on the Valley Course at Glenmarie Golf Club is an indication of what is to follow with a tee shot over water to the fairway and then a shorter water carry to the green surrounded by bunkers.  A bit of respite at the par-3, 4th, the shortest of the par 3’s with its deceptive uphill tee shot where it’s easy to under-club.

You need to lay up short of the water on the par-4, 7th and
if you can find a flat spot you have a reasonable chance to carry the water hazard and get close to the pin.  Enjoy the view from the tee box on the very picturesque par-3, 8th but even if you can get on in one shot the very fast and undulating green can still cause problems. The 12th is a monster par-3 and most average golfers will need to reach for their driver from the back tees.  The signature hole is the 14th a difficult par-5 with a stream which crosses the fairway and you need to find the fairway with your second if you want to reach the island green with your third. Water comes into play on the next three holes before a bit of respite on the long par-5 18th.

The Garden Course at Glenmarie Golf Club starts with a short and relatively easy par-4 followed by an attractive par-3 with water lurking behind the green waiting for those who overshoot and the final hole on the front nine is a long par 4 where it’s very easy to get blocked out by the trees if you pull your drive.  The back nine gets off to a tough start with a downhill par-4 which has a lake protecting the left side and again coming into play as you approach the green.  The par-5, 11th is very daunting dog-leg par-5 with a water carry off the tee and a green fronted by a lake.  The most difficult hole is the par-4,13th with a lake one side and OB on the other and a challenging two-tiered green.

Good clubhouse facilities at Glenmarie Golf Club but let down by indifferent service.

Glenmarie is one of a kind in KL

Reviewed by ; on
Glenmarie staff where very friendly, both in pro shop and in administration. Nice dressing room and nice but expensive to eat and drink. Our caddie was not as good as at Sungai and this caddie was not pleased over his tip. WE gave him more then he deserved - as we see it. And more then practice in KL, as we understand. But the course was excellent. We played the Valley, but it was to difficult for us. Maybe the staff could advise us to the more flat and maybe more easy garden course. We are not single hcp and we thought the Valley was to difficult for us.. But staf and surroundings was nice.,

Magnificent landscape

Reviewed by ; on
The Valley course is great with a good landscape and was in proper condition. 1 or 2 more half way houses would be great to get drinks. The caddy was awful without any knowledge of the game and without proper assistance. Neither English language skills did exist. But at the end due to a moderate pricing this was value for money.

"Good Fun to Play"

We played here after watching the CIMB Classic. Good courses except for the greens which were pretty bare. The courses is good value and you have to think your way around. Our caddie was fantastic. Not very friendly to foreign visitors and staff were not very helpful.
