Making full use of the natural topography, this is an inspired creation as you play through a series of tough holes full of dramatic elevation changes, with thick pristine rainforest teeming with wildlife to either side ensuring that your wayward drives are thoroughly punished - go into the jungle and you\'ll likely have to give your ball up for lost, all too easy to do when faced with the tight tee shots you\'ll often have to play. Even reaching the pristine fairways won\'t ensure an easy ride to the very quick greens, as the heavy undulation results in some blind approaches where judging distances is tough, particularly from the slender fairway of the par-4 10th.
Some particularly deep bunkers surrounding the often elevated greens cause plenty of problems, and water on five or six holes threaten to add significantly to your score, particularly on the 8th and 9th, a pair of picturesque par-4s that wrap around a small lake. A couple of water-protected par-3s, the 5th and 14th, will trouble and captivate you in equal measure, but in many ways this is par for the course around what is a quite spectacular golf course. Well away from the traffic noise and housing developments that so often take away from a golf course, every hole around here feels like an adventure, and many of the greens are surrounded by steep slopes that create a natural amphitheatre for the on looking monkeys, who are quick to steal any unsecured food or valuables.
While you\'ll have to be at the top of your game to score well, in many ways you won\'t mind a big score because this masterpiece of a course is an experience, and you\'ll really have to be having a shocking round to fail to have a smile on your face as you tackle its numerous scenic challenges. A must-play on any Bintan golf holiday, particularly when you take into account the chance to also play on the Jack Nicklaus course before having a refreshing drink in a clubhouse ranked amongst the very best in Asia.\n
Tee Time Bookings at Bintan Lagoon Resort - Ian Baker-Finch Course
If you are interested in playing 18 holes on this challenging course then you can book a tee time at Bintan Lagoon Resort - Ian Baker-Finch Course by select your chosen date from the top of this page.
Bintan Lagoon Resort Ian Baker-Finch Course is an inspired, undulating jungle golf course that\'s a real adventure. Tough, but it\'s too enjoyable a course to worry too much about your score. The course traverses dramatically undulating jungle terrain dotted with scenic water hazards.',
Before you reach the seaside holes though, you must first head inland through a dense, naturally undulating jungle environment as you tackle of series of beautifully designed holes. Whilst it plays easier than the Ian Baker-Finch course, there\'s plenty to challenge and frustrate you, not least Nicklaus\' trademark bunkering and the three small lakes that feature on the tough par-4 opener as well as at the 5th and 6th. When you take into account the often dramatic elevation changes, which make judging distances tricky and lead to the occasional blind approach, it makes for a demanding opening nine.
After the turn, you leave the jungle behind, with the 11th, a long par-5 once voted the best in Asia, running downhill towards the sea. The green of the par-3 12th sits on a small promontory of land that juts out into the sea and is hard to reach safely given the often stiff breezes you will encounter.
Although you head back inland on the par-4 13th, that doesn\'t mean the end of the water hazards, as the green is unusually split up the middle by one of the numerous streams that run through the course. Further, a forced carry on the par-3 15th is immediately followed by a par-5 and a par-4 that wrap around a large lake waiting to punish anything left. You may be tempted to cut the odd corner here, but it\'s more sensible to play it safe. The round end\'s in majestic style, with a par-4 which could almost be regarded as the whole course in microcosm - a typically immaculate rolling fairway dotted with excellent bunkering, water in play and memorable views of the sea.
While easier than the other course at Bintan Lagoon Resort Golf, this is nonetheless a pretty challenging setup, but high handicappers shouldn\'t be put off from the chance to experience one of the most scenic and highly regarded courses in the region, and a clubhouse ranked amongst the very best in Asia. A must-play on any Bintan golf holiday.
Tee Time Bookings at Bintan Lagoon Resort - Jack Nicklaus Course
If you like what you have read about this course and would like to book a tee time at Bintan Lagoon Resort - Jack Nicklaus Course then it could not be easier using our simple booking engine.
Bintan Lagoon Resort Jack Nicklaus Course hugely scenic mix of undulating jungle and scenic coastline, this stunning golf course in Bintan is not to be missed. The Jack Nicklaus Sea View Golf Course is a truly majestic championship course blessed with stunning views of the South China Sea.',
Winding through diverse terrain made up of natural wetlands, virgin forest and beachfront coconut groves, the undulating front nine and the flatter back both feature a number of memorable holes. This is especially the case as the course runs along the palm-fringed coast of the South China Sea, not least on the visually stunning par-3 8th, which requires a tricky tee shot across the beach and a rocky outcrop to a small green surrounded by trees. Away from the beautiful seaside holes, there is still plenty to challenge you, with a tough closing stretch from the snaking 15th onwards where water comes into play a number of times. This is overall a pretty tough course to master, with some tight tee shots to negotiate and accurate approach play required to avoid the relatively shallow bunkers and the longish grass that borders the smallish greens. One further thing to watch out for are the monkeys who will look to steal unprotected belongings from those not staying vigilant.
While things are still not perfect, the slightly slow greens no doubt a result of the frequent monsoon rains at certain times of the year, things here are definitely much improved, and if Laguna Bintan continues its investment programme it should soon be restored to its rightful place amongst the very best courses in the region.
This once neglected course is thankfully making a comeback, new investment restoring this challenging and hugely enjoyable Greg Norman design to its former glory. You can read about the project here and we are sure that this virtually new courses will take its righful place amongst the best golf courses in Bintan. The new course is open now although there is still some work being done on the clubhouse and everything is due to be completed by September 2016.',
While the 9-hole Forest Course is a real treat, the main course here is the stunning Ocean Course, whose stunning vistas, tough challenge and unique design have resulted in all the awards mentioned above.
The Ocean Course starts as it means to go on, with the monolithic 529 metre par-5 where your drive must avoid bunkers to one side and water to the other, your second must find a narrow landing zone between another lake and a further series of sand traps, and your third must flirt with water to find the small green. The course doesn\'t ease up after that, a short par-3 where you must cross water while contending with some stiff ocean breezes followed by a tough par-4 with water extending the length of the fairway and around the back of the green. You can pick up a few shots on the relatively straightforward holes 5 and 6 before the award-winning par-5 7th and the delightful but tough 8th, a dogleg which requires a downhill approach to a very scenic green surrounded by sea on three sides. The 9th, one of Asia\'s best par-3s, is a truly spectacular affair with the green sat on a rocky outcrop that juts out into the ocean. It\'s a memorable end to the front nine.
While not quite as stunning as the front, there are memorable holes on the back nine too as you play away from the ocean. Your approach to the par-4 11th must traverse a deep stream and avoid a pair of greenside bunkers to find safety, while your tee shot on the par-3 12th must cross more water while contending with some stiff cross-winds. After a couple of long, straight holes with a stream running down the left hand side of both, the par-3 17th plays from an elevated tee across a valley to a very well protected, sloping green, and the round ends memorably with one of the toughest finishing holes in Asia. This very long par-4 dogleg features water to the left and dense forest to the right, and your final approach must flirt with water and sand in order to find the green and impress those watching from the clubhouse.
While the Ocean Course is the main draw here, there are also an additional nine holes of the Forest Course available for play. Once you\'ve negotiated the fairly straightforward par-4 opener, the 2nd is a par-4 reachable in two for long hitters willing to risk getting caught up in a long series of bunkers in the run up to the small green. The 3rd is a tricky par-5 with a blind tee shot and a water hazard guarding a tiered green, and you have to keep your nerve at the short par-3 4th, as a 100 metre wide lake is waiting to swallow up anything short. The 6th offers a further opportunity to send your ball to a watery grave as it dog-legs around a lake to small green well protected by a trio of greenside bunkers, and the tough closing hole involves driving from an elevated tee to a narrow landing zone between water and sand on either side, before playing up to an elevated final green.
Overall, this is just a classy affair. The caddies are knowledgeable and helpful, the changing rooms plush and the clubhouse pleasant. It\'s unsurprising that this course is very popular with Singaporean golfers who ensure it\'s busy over the weekends, so if you want to play on a Saturday or Sunday if might be worth staying at the newly built hotel so you can beat the crowds with an early tee time. The Ria Bintan Golf Club is quite simply an essential part of any Bintan golf holiday.
