Silky Oak Country Club is a recent addition to the St Andrews 2000 family named after the trees that line most fairways. A good resort course which is ideal for higher handicappers and excellent value for money.
Silky Oak Country Club is a standard par-72 layout in a great setting with panoramic views of the surrounding hills from most parts of the course and especially from the elevated position of the halfway house. The course has nice wide fairways which will accommodate all but the very wild tee shot but you will encounter some uneven lies and the areas around the smallish greens are full of bumps and hollows which will severely test your short game.
Quite a few of the holes involve water carries off the tee or on your approach to the green but apart from that and the occasional pot bunker there is not too much to impeded your progress as the trees don’t really come into play.
The clubhouse and other facilities are fine but not exceptional and include a Japanese restaurant plus a range of other dishes Asian and Western delicacies. Other facilities include a swimming pool, karaoke room and massage. One thing to note is that it takes at least a 10 minutes to drive to the first tee so don’t arrive late at the clubhouse.
