Crystal Bay Golf Club is a very popular and relatively easy golf course about 30 minutes outside Pattaya in gently rolling terrain with plenty of opportunity for good scoring. Generally in good condition but can get very crowded at weekends so best played midweek. The palm trees which line many of the fairways give it a distinctly Hawaiian flavour.
Providing the wind is not blowing then you should expect to score well as the course plays quite short although you will need to negotiate the ever-present water hazards and well placed bunkers if you want to shoot your handicap.
This Pattaya golf club is a pretty classic 27-hole layout of three nines which are all pretty similar with a mixture of classic parkland holes and others which are more links-style. Plenty of water bordering some of the fairways and some which block your approach to the green plus the usual sprinkling of bunkers to make sure you don’t stray offline.
If you are playing from the back tees then you will find the par 3s quite long – especially the 5th which is over 200 yards from the blue tees and if you can score well on these holes then it should set you up well for the rest of your round. You will encounter two island greens as you go round- the 3rd is a par 4 and the 8th is a par 3 which pays 165 yards from the back tees.
The course is usually in good condition but they do struggle with the greens during extreme weather conditions but although they might not be as pristine as some other courses they do usually run true.
The clubhouse is a bit tired but should not detract from what should be an enjoyable day’s golf in lovely surroundings.
