While many golfers visiting Thailand head for Bangkok and the resorts of Pattaya and Phuket, there are some great golf courses to be discovered in the northern regions of the country. Chiang Mai is a great example and here you will find some splendid golf courses, including North Hill Golf Club.
Chiang Mai is a city in the mountainous north of Thailand and can be reached using Chiang Mai International Airport. This airport accepts both international and domestic flights so getting to the ‘Rose of the North’ is easy and hassle free.
Once in the city, it is a short trip south to North Hill Golf Club or just 15 minutes if you would prefer to head straight from the airport.
North Hill was designed by a local Thai designer and began life as a 9-hole golf course before being expanded to a full 18-hole course in 2014. The most notable aspect of North Hill is the quality of the golf course and it is in stunning condition. The greens, fairways, bunkers and even the rough are kept to a very high standard and you will feel like you are playing on a professional tournament quality golf course at North Hill.
As with many golf courses in Thailand, water plays a large roll in the design of the course and features regularly throughout the round. The first hole is a good example and you will find water along the whole of the right side of this par-5 opening hole at North Hill. You will be tempted to play the ball down the left side of the fairway to avoid the water but there are four fairway bunkers waiting to catch you out, three of which are on approach to the green.
The first hole at North Hill gives you an idea of what to expect throughout the round. The second hole is a short par-3 but is well protected by bunkers to the front right and small bunker to the rear. The course continues in the same manner throughout the remaining 16 holes and despite not being the longest course in Thailand, North Hill provides a test in terms of strategy.
You must think your way around this golf course and shot placement is critical on many holes. The driver is perhaps not the best club to use at North Hill and you will get better results from a shorter, more accurate shot off the tee.
Following the round, you can head to the clubhouse which offers a classy, award winning restaurant with over 300 dishes from which to choose. There is also a spa, pro shop, fitness room, games room and even a karaoke room if you want to sing the night away with friends and family.
North Hill is a fantastic golf club, with a great golf course and lovely facilities making it a top choice when playing golf in Chiang Mai.
