Gassan Khuntan Golf Resort

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6463 m / 7068 y | Type Parkland | Architect Mr.Pravit Reang –Po

Gassan Khuntan Golf & Resort is located in the middle of forest-covered mountains about one hour outside of Chiang Mai and has recently undergone some renovation and upgrading and the courses is now in excellent condition.  Framed by the Doi Khuntan Mountains, this is a stunningly beautiful and at times difficult golf course and the natural beauty more than compensates for the extra driving time from Chiang Mai city.

Surrounded by all this beautiful scenery which includes several picturesque waterfalls and the iconic railway bridge it is easy to get distracted from the many challenges that this course will throw at you.  These include blind tee shots, vicious dog-legs, an island green and numerous deep and strategically-placed bunkers.  As a part of the renovations they have added numerous bunkers along the out-of-bounds line to help speed up play so now the miss-hit shot will most likely end up in one of these rather than the jungle which lines most fairways.

One of the signature holes is the 160 yard par-3 5th which features an island green with a landing zone which has been severely restricted with the addition of several bunkers bordering the green – end up in one of these and at least one shot has gone.  The final hole on the front nine is a potential card-wrecker with water all along the left waiting for that mishit drive with bunkers along the right and if you can avoid these your approach is to an elevated green with still more bunkers protecting it.  At least on these holes you have a clear view of the landing area because on many holes you will have to rely on your caddies to point you in the right direction.

It’s nice to see the courses in such great shape as this is a very enjoyable if tough course and the wonderful views and clear mountain air combine to make this a memorable day out.

The large clubhouse is a bit old-fashioned and could also do with some upgrading but does offer great views over the course and the food is excellent.

Don't waste your time, not worth 30 minutes of your life.

Reviewed by ; on
Ok I understand I was a single, I assumed I would be paired with other golfers, didn't happen. I saw a least three 6 somes on the course and one right in front of me. Condition, every green had repair marks, turf in large areas that were replaced recently, Fairways have gone to weed, little grass other than some large broad leaf weed. Actually I'm going to stop here and not waste another second on this.. maybe was a good course in past but past its time and needs to be plowed under. Oh yeah and it advertises 7000 yards it isn't' a foot over 6000 so if your looking for a challenge forget it. Check out the card.. each side from the tips 2900 yards. Sorry very disappointed.. I would have had more fun had the pulled out a few teeth along the way.

Some well designed holes - but course is badly run down

Reviewed by ; on
While the course has some interesting holes design wise - the course is poorly maintained and the club house and changing facilities are dirty and need to be renovated. Unraked bunkers, patchy fairways and greens, two-broken-down carts (flat batteries) and a round the took just under 5 hours was no fun. Such a shame as the course had some challenging holes.

Challenging Course

Reviewed by ; on
Challenging layout, with plenty of cross ravine tee-off and water hazards. Greens were good. Fairways were okay. The course layout were changed but not updated to my Garmin, so I was unable to use my Garmin the course.

Good variety of holes

Reviewed by ; on
First impressions of course is very impressive. Played B then A. B was in fantastic condition and some great holes. First 2 or 3 holes on A fairways were poor but after that no problem. Got stuck behind a 7 ball. This was a new experience for me but apparently quite common. Saw a few more of these on the way around. I would hope they can change this but I think this is embedded into how members can play. Caddies were resourceful by skipping a couple of holes and returning to them later on. Luckily it was quiet enough to do this. Got a hole in one on the A course 5th hole island green and was presented with a certificate and goodies from the pro shop by the Assistant Managing Director which was a nice touch. Was my first ever one so something to remember it by.
