Phoenix Gold Golf Bangkok is a 36-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr designed golf course set in a beautiful and natural countryside setting to the east of Bangkok. The many different and varied holes offer a wide range of challenges to keep most golfers interested. The four 9-hole championship golf courses at Suvarnabhumi Golf Club President have been wonderfully designed to ensure a fair challenge but to ensure playability for golfers of all levels. Each of the four layouts demand accurate shot making and careful course management and you should enjoy playing from the lush hybrid Bermuda fairways. Not too many bunkers but those that remain still seem to have this magnetic attraction to your ball.
Plenty of water throughout the course and the greens are very well maintained and are renowned for their speed. The course also drains very well and even after the heaviest rainstorm you can resume your game after a few minutes. There are four sets of tee boxes to choose from so you are sure to find one to match your skill level and this ensure everyone walks off happy. For those better golfers there is always an option to take on the hazard and go for the pin which will give the reward of a birdie if you are brave enough.
The prevailing winds are also a great leveller and the wind direction moves with the season which can make club selection but the course is set up so that if you are able to play a low knock-down shot then you can roll your approach up to most of the greens.
The combination of the North and East courses, although shorter is the difficult of the two with some tough dog-legs and smaller greens with numerous water hazards and plenty of well-placed bunkers. The small trees and mounds which separate the holes don’t present too much of a hazard and the fairways look quite receptive but positioning off the tee is essential otherwise you will be faced with a difficult approach to – especially if you get off line and end up in the deep Bermuda rough.
The 2nd is the signature hole on the North course and is a slight dogleg par 4 with water protecting the right side of the tiered green and bunkers on the left.
The combination of West & South presents more of a links style challenge with the two nines adjacent to each other. Again this course places a premium on accuracy off the tee as most of the greens are protected by large and sometimes deep bunkers with the occasional water hazard. Once on the greens you will find them fast but true but the subtle borrows require careful negotiation.
The President Country Club's has a large clubhouse built in Mediterranean-style with most of the services you would expect to see and the restaurant called rather predictably "Hole-in one", a sauna with Jacuzzi, fitness centre, swimming and health club.
