Mekong Golf Resort opened for play in 2012 and is fast maturing into a top golf course. This is not a particularly tough golf course and it makes for a nice introduction to playing golf in Vientiane. The course measures 6,408 yards and is a par-72, so you do not need to be a long hitter to enjoy a round and score low at Mekong Golf Resort.
There are few water hazards and severe undulations to worry about on this golf course and the fairways are nice and wide. You can pull out the driver with confidence on many of the par-4 and par-5 holes with the knowledge you have some room for error thanks to with width of some of the fairways.
However, not all the fairways are wide and some narrow where you would like to land the ball, adding to the challenge of the course. With many trees and natural vegetation surrounding the fairways, you do not want to miss when attempting to land the ball on the narrowest sections.
The bunkers are the major hazard at Mekong Golf Resort and there is one bunker in-particular which catches the eye. There is a hole which features a bunker in the middle of the green, similar to that found on the 6th hole at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.
The quality of the fairways and greens have improved over time and the standard of care and maintenance is very high at Mekong Golf Resort. You could easily be fooled into thinking you were playing a top American golf course, it is that good.
The clubhouse at Mekong Golf Resort is quite simple but very clean and accommodating. If you wish you can book a room at the resort to stay overnight and enjoy the facilities but being so close to Vientiane, you could easily travel back to a hotel in city, the choice is yours.
