Designed by five-time British Open Champion Peter Thomson the international golf course The Padang Modern is an 18-hole course that enjoys a wonderful setting.
The Modern features an entire sports complex with the choice of golf, tennis, squash and badminton to name but a few of the many activities on offer here. Stylish and comfortable bungalows on site provide the perfect option for accommodation on site and the wonderful variety of cuisines on offer mean you will be spoiled for choice.
Padang Golf Modern has been designed to offer the golfer a sense of luxury and the level of service when you arrive is second to none. The staff and caddies are always smiling and as with many of the courses in Indonesia the staff are more than happy to meet your every need.
Course designer Thomson has built a splendid golf course that is challenging yet fun to play, with each hole differing from the last. The use of the wonderful natural forests have added to the dimensions of the holes and create a private feel as you play this course with beautiful backdrops and holes designed to tantalize the eyes.
Visitors are eased in to the game with a short par five. Measuring just 478 meters from the back tees the hole is inviting you to make a great start. A good tee shot to the narrowing fairway will leave a good chance of getting home in two. A stream cuts across the fairway, but should not really come into play. The green is well protected and relatively small so an accurate approach will set up a great chance for birdie.
Hole 7 is considered to be the toughest hole on the course, a mid to long length par 4 the hole requires bravery as the closer you can stay to the water that runs down the left the shorter your approach to the small green will be. This is a good hole and deserves the respect its handicap rating suggests.
The pick of the par threes for me is the 11th, a mid- length par three. Although water comes into play, it is not the water that creates the problem on this hole. Miss the heavily undulating green and you are almost assured of a bogey on the hole, it is unusual for a par three of this length to have a handicap index of 6, which is an indication of the difficulty of the hole.
As finishing holes go, the 18th at Padang Modern is a cracker. A par 5 that longer hitters will want to attack, bravery can be punished severely here. The drive needs to avoid the water left and also the bunkers that flank the fairway. If the fairway has been found the second shot to the green will need to be sweetly struck to carry the stream that cuts across the fairway in front of the green which is further protected by bunkers on each side. This is most definitely a hole that can yield a birdie for the brave or a double bogey or worse for the aggressive golfer who is not on top form.
