Springfield Royal Country Club is one of our favourite golf courses in Hua Hin.  A little further out of town than some of the other courses but can be easily reached within 30 minutes.  As you would expect from a course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus there are plenty of traps in the shape of bunkers and water hazards strategically placed to catch that fade or slice off the tee.

Springfield Royal Country Club is a very mature course and some of the holes are wide open and almost links-style and others wind their way between the mature trees and local plant life.  The owners have been careful to implement a design approach that would not only preserve the natural wildlife but also to enhance it.  As a result you will find more than 100 species of birds as you make your way around the course.

Springfield added another 9 holes in 2005 designed by the renowned team of golf course architects Lee Schmidt and Brain Curley. These nine are quite different to the original layout designed by Nicklaus 18 and are probably more challenging than the original course.

There are five sets of tees to choose from so the course is set up for players of all standards and if you enjoy the challenge of playing from the back tees then be prepared for some long carries off the tee and for your approach to the lush greens.

After a relatively simple opening tee shot you are faced with a long approach and you then realise that you have to keep your wits about you if you are to score well. So many of the greens are protected by bunkers and as a result some of the pin positions are very difficult to attack. Our favourite hole is the 18th which is actually a relatively short par 5 but you have to drive between the trees and then pick your spot on the narrow fairway to give you a chance of reaching the island green in regulation.

Springfield Royal offers excellent facilities once you get off the course. The club house sits in an elevated position with some views over parts of the course.  Excellent changing rooms, a well-stocked pro-shop and an excellent selection of food and drink adds to the enjoyment of playing at Springfield.  If you would like to stay overnight here then you can find more information here.

Nice golf course definitely worth playing

Course is in good condition and has plenty of challenges, hard not to compare to the big two in Hua Hin but still a nice course. Tee boxes need some attention but a minor issue.

Golf game and transport arrangement were perfect.

Nice course layout and quite challenging. However, the ground was a bit soggy. Perhaps it was due to rain in the early morning before our tee off at 9.20am.

Enjoyed the day, not many players easy free flowing game.

Considering the amount of rain the day before, the course was very very wet. No run from your drives, actually sometimes the ball bounced back a meter. Not the courses fault, just too much rain.

Lake Course was very nice and quiet. (Many go to Mountain Course). Maintenance is all right

Reviewed by ; on
A way of bag drop to pro shop is easy to understand and smooth. Locker room was very small but caused no problem probably because a lot of golfers stay in the hotel next to the club house. There was no hole numbers set up at each hole. Caddie tells me “Par 4, right side is OB” etc. Again, I found it was very strange to me that the first timer like me cannot find map of of each hole, whether it is dog leg, water hazard, etc. You need to ask caddie who speaks poor English. Otherwise, Lake Course was very nice and quiet. (Many go to Mountain Course). Maintenance is all right. No signature course for Lake and Valley Course i.e. no excitement probably this is the reason Mountain Course was the most popular.
