Black Mountain Golf Club, Hua Hin

Located on the northern section of the Malay Peninsula in Thailand, Hua Hin District is home to the popular seaside town of the same name.

Just under 200 kilometres Southwest of Bangkok, Hua Hin is very easy to reach and within a few hours of landing in Bangkok, you can find yourself in the lovely resort town.  Hua Hin is famous for several things including the very long beach, nightly street market, a beautiful train station and the Pa La-u Waterfall.

There are also many activities available to visitors ranging from boating and fishing to hiking and cycling.  However, it’s golf which has become one of the most popular activities in Hua Hin District and the sport continues to thrive.  Hua Hin is now recognised as being one of the premier destinations in Thailand for golf lovers thanks to its tremendous selection of world class golf courses.

This has led to many exciting golf events in the region with the best being the Hua Hin Golf Festival.

Hua Hin Golf Festival Packages

If you would like to include a hotel in your Hua Hin Festival package then we have plenty of hotels to choose from, whatever your budget, and the prices are very lows at this time of the year.

Weather during Hua Hin Golf Festival 2023

However, before highlighting the tremendous Hua Hin golf courses which are participating in the festival, you must be aware of the climate in this region of Thailand.  Thanks to the tropical climate of Hua Hin, the weather is generally pleasant all year and in November & December you can expect perfect weather.

The Hua Hin Golf Festival 2023 lasts for two months and this gives you plenty of opportunity to play as many of the ten golf courses as possible.

Where better place to start the Hua Hin Golf Festival 2023 than the oldest golf course in Thailand?  Royal Hua Hin Golf Course was the first golf course to be made in Thailand and is located just 5 minutes away from the centre of Hua Hin town.  Established in 1924, the course has an interesting history having been commissioned for British railway workers and the Thai aristocracy.

Royal Hua Hin Golf Club

Having been designed by a Scottish railroad engineer, Royal Hua Hin offers excellent views of the town and the Gulf of Thailand.  The golf course was renovated in the 1980’s and reaches international standards with tight tree lined fairways and small, elevated greens.  Watch out for the small macaque monkeys on the 13th fairway, they have been known to take a liking to any golf ball which strays near them.

With small kiosks located every three holes around the course you will remain suitably refreshed as you play this historic golf course.

Banyan Golf Club

The great thing about the Hua Hin Golf Festival 2023 is thanks to the discounted prices you can play a wide range of golf courses for your money.  Having enjoyed the oldest golf course in Thailand it’s time to try one the newest in Hua Hin, Banyan Golf Club.

The Banyan Golf Club, Hua Hin

Opened in October 2008, Banyan Golf Club is situated on a former pineapple plantation and has consistently won awards including the 2009 Best New Course in Asia Pacific by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly.  With spectacular ocean and mountain views plus the native pineapple groves, water hazards and waste bunkers, Banyan is a world class 18-hole championship golf course.

The fairways and greens are well maintained throughout the year and with a choice of six tee boxes on each hole, the course can be enjoyed by players of all abilities.  The huge up-hill par-5 12th hole and the par-3 15th hole with ocean views are the pick of 18 fantastic holes of golf.  Couple this with practice facilities and Thai styled club house featuring two international restaurants and you have the perfect golfing experience.

However, you should not restrict yourself to just one golf course during the Hua Hin Golf Festival 2023.  Take advantage of the great offers by playing as many as possible including Black Mountain Golf Club.

Black Mountain Golf Club

Located 10 kilometres west of Hua Hin, Black Mountain Golf Club has played host to both European and Asian Tour events.  The Thailand Classic was held at Black Mountain in 2015 and 2016, which shows how highly regarded this golf course has become around the world.

The course has a very natural feel, with several creeks running through the course in addition to the rocky outcrops which have been used cleverly as part of the design.  The original trees have been supplemented by newly planted trees and there are several risk and reward holes to enjoy.  That’s the great thing about Black Mountain Golf Club, it gives every golfer options and whether amateur or professional, the course is sure to delight in equal measure.

The par-5 6th hole with its peninsula green and par-3 11th hole with its island green are two which will stay in the memory when playing Black Mountain.  Having enjoyed the golf course take advantage of the 360-degree panoramic view from the clubhouse with a drink or make use of the spa facilities.  Black Mountain Golf Club is one not miss during the 2023 Hua Hin Golf Festival.

A little further away from Hua Hin than the courses above but well worth the trip is Lake View Resort and Golf Club.  A 35-minute drive from Hua Hin, a short journey is rewarded with 36 excellent holes of golf.

Surrounded by fruit orchards and small farms, the original 18-hole course features small streams and a large lake, with the latter splitting the course into two.  With doglegs, undulating fairways and blind shots to the green, this course is a real test of ability.  The highlight must be the par-3 14th hole which boasts both an island tee box and island green.

The two additional sets of nine holes offer a different challenge with the Lake View Links Course being the pick of the two.  This course is very open and plays, as the name suggests, much like a links course.  This course can be combined with any of the other sets of nine holes to create a completely different 18-hole experience.

The Lake View Resort and Golf Club is a great addition to the Hua Hin Golf Festival 2023 as it provides golfers with many options.  It’s possible to play several rounds of golf at this venue and each of them be different.

Springfield Golf & Country Club

The 2023 Hua Hin Golf Festival would not be the same without a course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus.  Springfield Golf & Country Club is rated by many as being one of the best in Hua Hin and it’s easy to see why.

The course can be enjoyed by players of every standard thanks to at least five tee boxes from each of the 18 holes.  Water hazards are the main feature of this golf course and only top players should try playing from the black tees, as it’s a real test.  With mature trees and thick rough lining the fairways, anything which drifts off the fairway can easily result in trouble.

The back nine holes have been designed to punish those with a weak fade and waste bunkers and water come into play regularly on the second half of the course.  However, if you are playing well you can score low despite the well protected greens, as the course is not particularly long.  Away from the course and the facilities at Springfield Royal Country Club are excellent, with an elevated clubhouse, with a lovely marble interior.

Add the additional nine holes to the mix, which were created in 2005 and you have an excellent golf club which should command a place on your itinerary during the 2023 Hua Hin Golf Festival.

Sea Pines Golf Course

If you would like to test yourself on a coastal links style golf course Sea Pines Golf Course is the perfect choice.

Created in 2010, the Sea Pines Golf Course is next to Suan Son Pradiphat beach and as with many traditional links golf course, the wind can dictate just how easy or difficult this course is to play.  With bracken pine trees, oceans and mountains providing the backdrop, it’s easy to take your mind off the course but with many challenging holes, you cannot afford to lose your focus for long.

There are many decisions to make at Sea Pines Golf Course, a great example of which is on the par-5 12th hole.  With a bunker in the middle of the fairway, you must decide whether to try and carry the sand with a driver or lay-up short and take on a longer second shot.  Whatever your ability and length off the tee, the wind may be the deciding factor here and in many cases, playing to the centre of the green rather than attacking the pin will pay dividends.

The final three holes on this golf course are regarded by many as being the best in Hua Hin and worth the entrance fee alone.  Thankfully, during the Hua Hin Golf Festival 2017 you can play this golf course at a special price and decide for yourself.

With the 2019 Hua Hin Golf Festival spread over both August and September, there is plenty of time to experience the golf courses in this region of Thailand.  Although the courses highlighted above are some of the best in Hua Hin, it is difficult to name one above the other and your options do not end there.

Other golf courses which are taking part in the Hua Hin Golf Festival 2023 include the first international standard golf course to be opened in Hua Hin, Palm Hills Resort and Country Club.  This course is often described as having a Scottish links feel to it thanks to the undulating terrain and is renowned for being one the best kept courses in Hua Hin.

Other Hua Hin golf courses you can enjoy during the 2023 Hua Hin Golf Festival include Majestic Creek Country Club and Kaeng Krachan Country Club and Resort.  The former is just 30 minutes from Hua Hin town and is rated by many as being the best layout in the region.  The natural surrounding scenery and glimpses into Thai rural life all add to the experience of this golf course.

With so many world class golf courses to choose from, knowing where to start during the Hua Hin Golf Festival 2019 can be a bit of a conundrum.  However, the festival is open in August and September, which should give you plenty of time to play and enjoy every Hua Hin golf course on your list.
