Golf in Nagano

Nagano golf courses

Nagano is both the name of a Japanese city and the prefecture in which the capital city can be found.  Situated in the Chubu region of Japan, Nagano does not have a coast line and is located in the central part of Honshu, the largest island of Japan.  Nagano is the home to several golf courses and golf resorts.

Nagano is often referred to as being the roof of Japan and was made famous around the world when it hosted the 1998 Winter Olympic Games.  Therefore, the city and prefecture come with a sporting heritage and a Nagano golf holiday is highly recommended.

There is no airport in Nagano, so visitors from outside the country are advised to arrive at Tokyo and take the bullet train.  The journey takes only 90 minutes but if you book a seat on the slower, Wide View Shinano from Nagoya, you will be treated to some fantastic views.

The mountains in this region of Japan are spectacular and they connect to three volcanic mountains, Mount Nasu-Yama, Mount Fuji and Mount Norikura-dake, plus the 3,000-meter-class Japan Alps to the west.

While staying in Nagano, don’t forget to check out the famous monkeys in the rock baths at Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park.

In the summer months, the alpine countryside is full of blooming plants and Karuizawa is one of the most famous summer resorts in Japan and is home to Karuizawa 72 golf.  This extensive golf resort is home to six golf courses and 108 holes, making it the perfect base to enjoy a golf holiday in Japan.
