Golf in Miyazaki

Miyazaki golf courses

While many visitors to Japan concentrate on the largest island of Honshu, there are other islands to explore in this fabulous country and Kyushu island is a great example.

This Japanese island is home to Miyazaki, a prefecture which is on the south of the island and makes a tremendous base for a Japan golf holiday.  Miyazaki prefecture has its own airport, located just a few kilometres from the city which shares the same name.  There are regular flights from Tokyo and Osaka plus Seoul, Taipei and Hong Kong.

When booking a Miyazaki golf holiday, you will be greeted with mild temperatures, plus beautiful mountainous and coastal scenery.

Takachiho is a lovely place to visit when playing golf in Miyazaki and is known as a place of profound religious importance.  Some of the best areas for a spiritual experience include Amano Iwato Shrine and Takachiho Gorge, the latter of which is a great place to hire a kayak and get on the water.

The city of Miyazaki enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other city in Japan and this alone makes it a top choice for a golf holiday in the country.  There is a relaxed atmosphere and the castle towns of Aya and Obi are good places to explore.

There are two excellent golf courses to play in Miyazaki, Phoenix Country Club and Tom Watson Golf Course.  As the name suggests, the latter is designed by legendary golfer Tom Watson and is rated very highly by all those who have played the course.

Arguably the top golf course in this region of Japan is Phoenix Golf Club.  To reach Phoenix Golf Club for visitors outside of Japan, you must first fly to Tokyo or Osaka and catch a connecting flight to the city of Miyazaki.  You can also fly from Seoul, Taipei and Hong Kong, which opens the opportunity for an unforgettable multi-centre golf holiday in Asia.

Designed by legendary golfer Tom Watson, the Tom Watson Golf course close to Miyazaki City is an absolute triumph in course design.

Somewhat over-shadowed by near neighbour the Phoenix Golf Resort, The Tom Watson Golf Course quickly gained recognition as one of the must play courses in the area.

Carved from the native Japanese pine forest the course demands accuracy and length from the tee and nerves of steel for the approach shots.

The course is generally flat, with little change in elevation but the imagination and skill of Tom Watson has created an exceptional layout that will test every level of golfer.
