Blue Sapphire Golf Resort

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6401 m / 7000 y | Type Parkland | Architect Steven Youdan & Art-anan Yomchinda

Golf is very popular across the whole of Thailand but golf in Kanchanaburi has really grown and the area offers a huge number of excellent golf courses.  Blue Sapphire Golf and Resort, is one such course and is located a short, 30-minute drive from Kanchanaburi town and 3 hours away from Bangkok.  The Blue Sapphire Golf and Resort is a 36-hole golf course and interestingly, the area in which it has been constructed, was formerly a Sapphire mine, hence the name.  The area of land left over from the mine, could easily house a large football stadium and it’s proved to be the perfect venue for a golf course.

A stand out feature of Blue Sapphire Golf and Resort, are the lakes, which both golf courses wind their way around.  In addition to the water, the course designers have also added a number of palm trees and local fauna and flora and these frame each hole nicely.

The two, 18-hole golf courses are called Canyon and Ocean.  There’s a choice of five tee positions on each hole of both courses and therefore, golfers of all abilities will feel welcome.  Each course is split up in to two, nine hole sections and the Canyon Course comprises the Blue Sapphire and the Yellow Sapphire.  Water comes in to play on both sets of nine holes and the par-3 holes are particularly noted for water hazards, as they each play downhill and across water.

The Ocean Course, as the name would suggest, also features plenty of water and Pink Sapphire, which is the front nine, offers some of Blue Sapphire’s most testing holes, despite being the shortest nine holes at the golf club.  The second set of nine holes on the Ocean Course, brings home the previous use of the land as a quarry, with plenty of doglegs, based around rock quarry walls.  This is perhaps the most difficult nine holes on the course, with tight landing areas and elevated greens.

Blue Sapphire Golf and Resort is a well maintained golf course, with good fairways and lovely views of the surrounding jungle and hills.  Accommodation is available in either the main resort or in boat themed lodgings around the course.  There is a driving range, seminar centre and simple restaurant available and these are the pick of the facilities.

Blue Sapphire Golf and Resort, is the perfect venue for a testing round of golf and a peaceful stay, away from the city environment.

Blue Sapphire Golf Resort

A budget course with very poor accommodation.

Looks very tired and is in need of investment. Everything is old and worn, including carts, pathways, bar restaurant area, unkempt bunkers, poor general course presentation and stubby teeing areas. Worst of all was the accommodation which we left after one night instead of our 2 nights booked.

A great layout in average condition

There are some fantastic holes on this course but the whole place has an air of neglect. Still OK to play if you want a relaxing round and can ignore some of the poor maintenance.
