Royal Hua Hin Golf Course

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6077 m / 6646 y | Type Parkland | Architect O.A.Robins

The Royal Hua Hin has a distinguished history dating back to the early half of the 20th century making it the oldest golf course in Thailand. It’s not in great condition but still very playable.

The course wanders between the rocky outcrops and has been designed to mould with the natural terrain and is reminiscent of many of the older British courses.

Due to its long history, the course is lined with fully mature trees unlike many of the more recently built course which gives the course great character.  The fairways are usually pretty hard and often interspersed with weeds and bald patches but this will give you plenty of run on the ball.  The greens are very slow but true and at times tough to read.  There are some great views from some of the more elevated tee boxes and a Thai Temple provides the backdrop to the par-3 14th.

As you approach the club you will pass by the very ornate railways station which was often used by the Royal family as they visited their summer palaces in Hua Hin.

Probably the best hole is the last on the front nine which is a par 4 which takes you downhill towards the clubhouse. You have to drive across a waste area and at the same time avoid two large bushes which block your way.  If you can navigate these hazards you are faced with a relatively simple approach to the green.

If you can ignore the wear and tear then it’s very playable and certainly worth a round to soak up some of the history of this grand old lady.

Royal Hua Hin Golf Course

The course if kept yup would have been acceptable. It is need of more watering.

The fairways were super dry. I had not played in 3 months and was rusty. I rent left handed clubs and the course should have been ashamed with the condition of the clubs.

There are definitely more groomed golf-courses, but for us this was perfect - very nice caddies, not many people and easy going. We will be back!

Well worth visiting

Reviewed by ; on
It's very clear that a lot of time and money have been spent on this course - whilst the tee boxes are 'well used', the fairways are challenging and the greens are in superb condition "like walking on a soft axminster carpet'. The oldest course in Thailand certainly deserves the accolade despite the 1st being wet and muddy in places. All in all, a great course located in the centre of the town, some narrow fairways but superb views and central for all amenities.

Course in pretty bad condition

Reviewed by ; on
But the course was in pretty shoddy condition, many variations on fairways some very very bare, devoid of grass especially around the margins hard compacted earth, clearly very little regular watering. The greens were inconsistent, some spongy some hard, grass varying lengths & with bald patches! The tee boxes hard ground.
