Ras Al Hamra Golf Club

Holes 9 | Par 71 | Length 5944 m / 6500 y | Type Desert | Architect Graham Marsh

If you have been searching for the perfect golf facility in the centre of Muscat, Oman, look no further than the Ras Al Hamra Golf Course. The 18-hole golf course is designed Graham Marsh Golf Design and opened for play in 1969. At first, Ras Al Hamra was a sand course but it has since been redesigned and now features trees and native shrubs. These have been planted throughout the 18 holes and add some colour to the rocky surroundings.

During the inaugural NBO Oman Open 2018, Paul Lawrie and Jamie Donaldson visited the Ras Al Hamra Golf Course and were impressed by the design and layout of the course. It remains the host venue for the Muscat Open, the most prestigious golf tournament in the city.

There was plenty of space to work with when designing the 18 holes and some of the holes boast two different greens or large double greens with two different holes. Brett Merrell, part of the design team, said, “Our first and tenth holes share the same tee and fairway but when you get up to the green its 1,500 square metres with two flags on it which is very similar to St Andrews where you have a double green”.

Another of the major features at Ras Al Hamra Golf Course is floodlights. This allows those who are busy throughout the day to come and enjoy a quick 9 holes, or full 18 holes if time allows. Many people choose to play golf in Muscat after dark in the summer months as the daytime temperatures are often extremely hot. This means Ras Al Hamra Golf Course enjoys plenty of use throughout the year.

In addition to the superb golf course, you will find a private beach club on the Gulf of Oman, a boat club, restaurants, and bars. There is also tennis and squash facilities, meaning there is something for everyone at Ras Al Hamra Golf Course.
