Legendary South African golfer Ernie Els has been making a name for himself as a golf course designer. The Els Course in Dubai, has been a welcomed addition to the many golf courses in the area.
Els has a keen eye for design and manages to create superb, flowing golf courses, making the most of the surrounding landscape and vistas.
Ernie Els, who has long been a fan of the great links golf courses of the UK has created a fantastic golf course that mixes the sublime with first class service resulting in one of the most prestigious golf resorts in Dubai. The clubhouse and practice facilities compliment the stunning golf course perfectly and the service is award winning.
His creation of what can only be called a desert links course has got the world talking.
The fairways and greens are simply immaculate and only aid the sense of luxury at the resort.
In designing this course, Els wanted to provide golfers with eye watering views coupled with strategic problems and he has achieved this through the clever use of undulations and large changes of elevation changes.
The holes are framed by sandy waste areas, that not only define the shape of the hole but also provide an obstacle for the golfer. Native vegetation is abundant and it adds to the beauty and the naturalness of the golf course.
Strategically placed, classically shaped bunkers bring a sense of tradition to what is a magnificent design which merges technology with classical notes.
Each hole almost pays tribute to some of Els´ favourite courses and holes from around the world. He wanted to imitate the bunkers from Royal Melbourne, the greens resemble those of the stunning Pinehurst Nº 2 and the wide, rolling fairways of the famous Scottish and English links courses that he is so found of.
The main theme to the course is the requirement of accuracy from the tee to avoid the numerous bunkers that provide protection.
Hole 15 is definitely one of the hardest holes on the course. Water right comes into play or the entire length of the hole and requires accuracy from the tee. Do not get greedy and try to take on too much of the water. A mid iron to the left of the green will leave you with a tricky two putt, as the green often throws up many a double break. A par is a fantastic score here.
Hole 16 is one for the longer hitters as you have the chance of hitting the green off the tee. Anything lacking accuracy will leave a near impossible up and down which adds to the risk and reward strategy of the hole.
An absolute definite for anyone considering a Dubai golf tour.
